The Effects of Fasting Time on Haematological and Blood Biochemical Parameters in SD Rats

Abstract
|
|
|
The experiments were carried out to elucidate the effects of fasting time on haematological and blood biochemical parameters in 18-week-old Sprague Dawley rats. The 4 groups were free feeding(non-fasting) group, 3∼4 hours fasting group, 16∼17 hours fasting group and 24∼25 hours fasting group and each group was 10 male SD rats, respectively.
The results obtained were as follows :
1. Liver weight : Liver weight was decreased in 16∼17, 24∼25 hours fasting group in both sexes compared with free feeding group(p$lt;0.01).
2. Haematologic parameters : HCT in male rats was decreased in 16∼17 hours fasting group, also MCH and MCHC in female rats were decreased in 16∼17, 24v25 hours fasting group compared with free feeding group (p$lt;0.01).
3. Differential leukocyte counts : there were no significant differences compared with free feeding group.
4. Blood biochemical parameters : ALP, GLU and TG were significantly decreased in 16∼17, 24∼25 hours fasting group compared with free feeding group in both sexes(p$lt;0.01 or 0.05).
